      Description: To network chairs:
Some dates were changed due to conflicts with LILF Meetings, presenter availability, etc. There will be a simplified registration process for the year so that members can ask for all the dates at once for network members. We are still connecting with some presenters to see what the costs will be and if they are available.

      Registration process:

All Network members will be invited to all network meetings in August.

Additional dates may have been added due to needs to accomplish some regional business as well.

Regional business includes exploring Best Practices for each network (top 5) building capacity regarding UDL, Science of Implementation, and Results Based accountability, etc. Activities for this may include, viewing webinars and holding discussions, conversations on "how does this apply to my work", etc...

Due to funding limitations this year we will be doing more ongoing trainings within the networks, conversations on behavior and mental health with your suggested presenters. This should in turn assist in developing relationships with those who are leaders in the field outside of education.

There will be a Chair/cochair meeting on 8-19-14. Stipend of $125 for the day.

      Agenda Items

End: What do you want from me...Next steps?

Stipend of $125 for the day.

    • Interventions: Evidence-Based Behavioral Strategies for Individual Students

      Starts: 8:30 am

      Ends: 3:45 pm, August 20, 2014

Location: Rochester International Event Center, Airport View Drive Southwest, Rochester, MN, United States

Description: The Interventions training for Region 10 will help improve the behavior management and intervention skills of the teachers and paraprofessionals by looking at research-support behavioral interventions and strategies. The goal is to ensure that behavior interventions are designed and implemented in the most time, personnel, and cost effective manner possible, while still meeting student’s needs. Mike Booher, from Safe & Civil Schools, will be the trainer/consultant. The materials and resources for this training are based on one book:
      • Interventions: Evidence-Based Behavioral Interventions for the Individual Student by Randy Sprick and Mickey Garrison (2008)

The training will look at what we know about changing student behavior, especially those students who continue to display inappropriate behavior despite teachers' classroom management plans. The training will focus on how to help teachers and paras work collaboratively to implement six early-stage interventions from the Interventions book that research has shown to be highly effective in promoting positive behavior change. These six early-stage interventions are easy and quick for a teacher to implement with the support of a para-professional.

      1. Providing an overview of behavior interventions and the essential ingredients to intervening successfully:
Understanding the history of behavior interventions and why schools and teachers have struggled
What the research says are the five key variables to manipulate
      Key elements in effective interventions
Understanding how student motivation impacts an intervention plan

      2. Learn specific behavior interventions:
Coverage of the 6 evidence-based early-stage interventions from Interventions:
      Planned Discussion
      Academic Assistance
      Goal Setting
      Data Collection and Debriefing
      Increasing Positive Interactions
      STOIC Analysis and Interventions

      3. Provide a quick overview of Managing the Cycle of Emotional Escalation which is a highly structured interventions from the book.
